Is it ok…

Is it ok…

…to do something you know is wrong… if you were just trying to help?

I’m writing two messages for FUSE The Loop our 5th and 6th grade ministry at I need your help!

What do you think? Is it ok….? Why or why not?

I know that even if I do something wrong and no one knows about it, it plagues me for days and days until I either tell someone else about it or “un-do” it, if possible. So I usually don’t for the sake of my conscience. (aka I don’t want to hear about it from myself forever). So I don’t know if I’m the best to answer!

Good questions, Anna. Here’s a few of my thoughts on the matter:

    1. Ultimately, we have to acknowledge there are several lies to counter in these questions. For starters, Satan decieves us to think nobody will know if we go ahead and do something wrong. The truth is God will know, for He sees all that we do (Jer. 23:24).

    2. Another lie from Satan is that nobody will be hurt. First and foremost, God will be hurt. Our sins grieve him more than we perceive. In fact, our sins cost Jesus must pain and death. Secondly, the truth is we don’t know the extent of our actions. Imagine a small pebble dropped into a pond and the concentric circles formed – they will eventually reach the outer regions of the pond even though they may not be noticeable to the naked eye.

    3. Finally, it’s a lie that it’s OK to “help” someone even though it’s wrong in God’s eyes. Why? Because you’ve harmed youself more than helping them. You’ve told them by your actions you will compromise your moral convictions to meet their “needs.” You’ve put their “needs” above God’s, which is idolatry. You given them “power” over you they do not deserve or have come close to earning. We were all bought with a price and we belong to God alone (1 Cor. 6:20 & 7:23).

Hope this helps! You are going to do an AWESOME job!

the bible states in romans 14:23 that if you do something you believe is not right you are sinning!

so even if it doesn’t hurt anyone, it hurts God to know you went against your conscience.

Thanks for all the thoughts and scriptures… these will really help!

  • The bible is such fun! This sounds like one of those possibly blanket lowering from heaven questions. Unclean! What? I said possibly…(grin)
