There’s Something in the Water

images-4.jpegI’ve learned my lesson.

Never let a stranger into your home. Especially a stranger who told you,

“We want to give you a free gift! Can we bring it by your house and give you a quick demonstration of our product?”

A free gift? Cool!

In my 22 years of life you think I would’ve learned by now that nothing is free! And indeed it wasn’t. It cost me 2 hours (count ‘em T-W-O hours of my time!) Quick demonstration my booty!

This woman knew all the tricks. She pulled out her briefcase and went to work, turning my kitchen into a science lab. I learned all I’ve ever wanted to know about water purification. She showed me what I was drinking through the tap: a cloudy vile that looked more like toilet paper water than drinking water.

She explained how much money I could be saving in soaps, detergents, shampoos and other products if I had softer water. She showed me through her flip charts that drinking MY water might cause cancer! She then told me how much her water purifier cost:

12,000 Twelve THOUSAND dollars???? Are you kidding me!

“But think of the money you could be saving!”

Lesson learned. Never let a stranger into your home. Especially a stranger trying to sell something.

Have you ever experienced something like this? How do you handle pushy sales people?

  • How very funny! I will never forget the first time I got roped into an Amway presentation. It was an old friend that I thought was just trying to reconnect with me. You are so good natured that I am sure you were really trying how to be nice and get out of it. Hey–I have been is sales and was a sales trainer. The good ones know that no is nothing personal and expect to hear it 90% or more of the time. I am just respectful and cut the person off as soon as I realize what is going on. You are actually doing them a favor so they can move on to the next person.

the same thing happened to me before but with some high-tech vacuum cleaner!!!! it was only about 1,000 dollars though! but for a vacuum cleaner!! really? i said i wasnt interested and then they tried to put me on a payment plan and it was just a mess! haha

  • Once we let a guy come demonstrate a vacuum cleaner. I just didn’t want to vacuum the house so I was totally ok with it :)

  • Katie says:

Did you actually get a gift?

  • Anna says:

The “free gift” was one of those vacations you have to call and activate within 15 days of receiving it… stupid scam… stupid me for letting it happen! Ugh…

I love you! You are so transparent and open. Your heart is as big as the sky. Keep it up and don’t let this change you except to be a little wiser. Dad
